NORTH CHURCH STREET (ARKANSAS HIGHWAY 141)

SEISMIC PERFORMANCE COMPLIANT BRIDGE
Client City of Jonesboro, Arkansas
Location Jonesboro, Arkansas
Schedule Completion in two phases: 1997 & 1999

Project Detail

North Church Street (Arkansas Highway 141) encompassed 3.3 miles of both an intensely developed urban area and a developed suburban area.

Because this is a state highway, the design had to meet requirements set forth by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The sections of improvements are four-lane with curb and gutter and four-lane with shoulders and open side ditches. Two existing bridges required replacement, one with a multiple reinforced box culvert and the Lost Creek Bridge with a multiple span (three 31-foot continuously reinforced concrete spans).

The existing single-span bridge near the north end of the project was replaced with a double 10’ X 8’ reinforced concrete box culvert. The Lost Creek Bridge was designed for AASHTO Seismic Performance Category “B” in compliance with Act 1100 of the 1991 Arkansas Legislature.
